How it all started

And a moral.

As a kid I used to hang out w/ a friend of my mom’s who was a huge Napoleonic wargamer. I was young (5th grade or so…) and he had all of these wicked cool miniatures. One day he asked if I’d like to help him out and paint some of them. Like any kid of that age in the 70’s, I had built and painstakingly painted hordes of models. This “experience” served me well, and after seeing my work, he asked me to take some home and paint them for him.

This went on for quite some time. One day though, a box arrived via my mother. It was smaller than the others (only 3″ x 4″ x 2″ maybe) and heavier as well. I opened it and got the strangest surprise… It had these really odd lizard looking bipedal creatures in it. They were bigger than the 25mm figurines that I had been painting, and man, were they odd.

What it all means

Juli and I were having a conversation last night regarding the future. Or more aptly, a future. Imagine for a second the scenario where corporations have much more control of the government than the individual for which it was originally created. Sort of a present day robber baron atmosphere. Add to that a rapidly changing climate, a people so dependent upon fossil fuels that they’d quite likely whither and die should the source run dry, a population growth rate that’s straining the limits of an already overburdened ecosystem, new and improved diseases, and a looming worldwide food shortage.
